The President House
The President House or Rashtrapati Bhavan is a government building spread across the area of 330 acres with a private Mughal garden designed by the well-known architect Sir EdwinLutyens.It is the official house of First Citizen of India – addressed as President, and situated in the Raisina Hills. Before the palatial building was used as Parliament House, it was the official house of the Viceroy of India during the British Rule. The magnificent and impressive structure gives an explicit outlook and it outshines all other monuments located in its vicinity. The President House is a celestial blend of Mughal and Western style. The huge columns erected in the front have artistic bells carved with the simple notion that British rule will never see the dusk. Having 340 rooms, the President House was completed in year 1929 and was built at an average cost of 12, 53,000. There was the time when almost 2,000 inmates stayed in the president house and managed various tasks including the task of taking care of the Viceroy’s household.
The inspiring and striking Mughal Gardens adds an accent to the President House. The gardens are thrown open to public in the month of February every year as it is the time when flowers are in full bloom. Since the building was built and completed during the times of British Imperial rule, one could easily come across different shades at different points. The president House is undoubtedly the most significant and popular monument holding the same wonder and awe as Taj Mahal of Agra and Qutab Minar of Delhi.
There is fabulously designed Durbar Hall located in the vicinity of Rashtrapati Bhavan. The auditorium of the hall will have measurement of 22.8 meters across diameter. The hall clearly shows manifestation of stunning colored marbles. Durbar Hall is where you will get to see the embellished Viceroy's throne. The very popular Arjuna Awards are given out in this hall of the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The ceremonial Viceroy's throne gleefully faces the main entrance and commanded a view at the axial view of 'Kingsway', which now holds the name as Rajpath. At present, the hall is considered to be spot of all official ceremonies like swearing ceremonies of the Prime Minister, the Cabinet apart from the Members of Parliament.
For many years, the Durbar Hall was used as museum. The hall also provides direct access to private apartments. The President House is a monument symbolizing the style and reverence. It showcases the part of Indian political system.
The Rashtrapati Bhavan comprises The State Drawing Room, The State Ballroom, The State Library, The State Dining Room and The Private Apartments. Towards its west lies the fabulous Mughal Gardens. The parliament lying close to the Rashtrapati Bhavan does not have the bus service, but tourists who have come to visit it can hire taxi or prepaid auto rickshaw. One cannot make the entry to Rashtrapati Bhavan without having official permit. Therefore, it is very important that the tourists apply for permit.
